Abbey Window's
When the Abbey + Church was Consecrated to Christ the King,in 2015 the windows were plain glass.
However a short period afterwards -
Fr Jamie made contact with the
Canonesses of the Holy Sepulcre founded in 1114 AD they came to England in 1480.
He then had many phone calls to and fro from Sister Mary Stephen about using some of her designs in order to make a new window. A few days later she came back to him and said -
"Ive been thinking" it wont work !
Having been given the measurments, she had decided that she would designe one !!!!!
Then a few days later she decided she was going to make it she was 86 years old !!!
So she designed and made the High Altar Window, starting with the one at the very top the "Holy Spirit", then she made the
"Holy Sepulchre" Window which she then sent to us to install for Easter 2016.
Sister Mary Stephen ( Gillian Grindon -Welch) was a member of the Community for over 70 years and sadly passed away on 9th September 2025 aged 95 years old. She was an amazing Artist, and her work can be found in many places.
